Planning a wedding can be both exciting and overwhelming. It's hard not to let the stress get the best of you, which takes away from the excitement! One of the first decisions that needs to be made after getting engaged is finding the perfect wedding venue. Your venue sets the tone for the entire event, including the style of your dress...which let's face it - that might be the MOST exciting part! To make sure you're well-prepared before booking your dream venue, here are some things you need to consider:
1. Budget
Why can't we all just be rich?! They say money doesn't buy happiness, but it sure makes life a little easier, doesn't it? Regardless of your financial situation, setting a budget is important. Knowing how much you can afford to spend will help narrow down your options and prevent you from falling in love with a venue that's out of your price range. It's just like buying a house - it's a waste of your time (and the venue's time) to look at venues that you know are out of your price range. At our wedding venue, The Burch on Twenty Seven, (https://www.theburchontwenty-seven.com/ ) we make our pricing public. No sense in giving couples the run around when it comes to cost!
2. Guest Count
How many people are on your guest list? From my experience, usually, not everyone that is invited will show up. Some people don't RSVP and show up, and some people RSVP and then can't make it - it happens! Taking all of that into consideration, it's important to know the max amount of guests that potentially will be attending your wedding. Always be sure to ask how many guests the venue can accommodate. Yes, it's about the bridge and groom, but you want people to feel comfortable when they sit down to eat, so know your numbers! At our local wedding venue near Columbus, Georgia, we can comfortably accommodate up to 130 guests. We've had more, yes, but pushing that number is not ideal.
3. Location
Think about the location of your venue. Is it in close proximity to those attending? Is there ample parking available? Are there overnight accommodations close by for those coming in from out of town? These may not be deal breakers to you, however, they are worth considering!
4. Style and Theme
Consider the style and theme of your wedding when choosing a venue. Are you dreaming of a rustic barn wedding? Are you more of a cinderella's castle kind-of-girl? Does the venue give you the opportunity to make the space yours and bring your vision to life?
5. Services and Amenities
What types of services does the venue offer? Do they have in-house catering? Do they require that you book vendors from their list? At our local wedding venue near Columbus, Georgia, we provide a list of vendors but this is just for guidance. We don't have a closed list of vendors, but we do have certain requirements such as licensed caterers and day of coordinators. Also, our approach with our venue is that we offer as much as can in-house. This year, we started offering in-house DJ and day of coordinators and this has been a hit! It might be helpful with your wedding planning to knock a few things off the list at one time.
6. Restrictions and Regulations
Be aware of any restrictions or regulations imposed by the venue. Some venues may have limitations on music volume, end times, or outside vendors. Always know the rules and ask questions! It might affect your damage deposit one day so no question is dumb!
7. Climate and Backup Plan
Consider the season in which you're getting married and the climate of the venue's location. Do you want to get married outside? What are the back-up plans if it rains, or if the weather is too cold? Talk with your venue owner. Ask for pictures of the backup plans so that you can feel comfortable just incase!
8. Visit the Venue
Taking a tour is a must! Pictures and videos are great, but seeing a venue in person is always best. A "vibe" is a real thing, and you can't feel a "vibe" through pictures. What is the venue has a smell that you just can't put your finger on? I know that sounds funny, but I'm being serious! Take a tour of property, ask a lot of questions and ask yourself "can I see myself marrying my forever here?"
Remember, your venue plays a significant role in creating the perfect backdrop for your special day, so take the time to find the one that truly speaks to you and your partner.
Happy venue hunting, and enjoy the process!
Until next time...
