What Every Couple Should Know Before Choosing a Wedding Venue

Choosing a wedding venue is one of the biggest and most important decisions you'll make while planning your wedding. As a wedding venue owner, I've had a front-row seat to hundreds of events, and I've learned by experience what helps couples feel confident, relaxed, and excited on their wedding day, and what causes unnecessary stress.
If you're looking for the perfect wedding venue, here are a few insights every couple should know before signing that contract!

Your Wedding Venue Shapes Your Entire Wedding Day
Your wedding venue does far more than provide a location. It influences your timeline, decorations, vendor and guest flow, the guest experience, and how smoothly (or not!) your day unfolds.
When couples choose a venue they truly love, like The Burch on Twenty-Seven, planning becomes easier. During your tour, I will walk through what a typical wedding flow looks like at our venue. As I tell all my couples, this example flow is just that, an example! I want each of our couples to use the space in a way that suits them perfectly. I have seen that going through our "typical flow" is a great way to provide a visual so our couples can actually imagine their wedding there. I also schedule 3 planning sessions with my couples, which allows for on-site visits, and provides more security and comfort in knowing that the day-of will go just as they planned. We walk through the flow, any obstacles with vendors, plan tables, and answer any questions!
Guest Comfort Matters
Couples often focus on aesthetics first, which is important, but guest comfort plays a huge role in how successful the wedding day can be. Things such as parking access, indoor and outdoor options, when the bar is open, the location of the bathroom and how the guests will be entertained while they wait on the bride and groom.
At our wedding venue, we encourage couples to think through the guest experience, from arrival to departure. A comfortable, well-thought-out venue allows guests to fully celebrate with you.

Have a Rain Plan!
Every experienced wedding venue owner will tell you this - weather planning is essential. A true rain plan shouldn't go unspoken. A rain plan should be in place so that it feels as intentional as your original plan.
Professional venues design their spaces with flexibility in mind. While our venue was already a functioning venue we bought it, we have a rain plan in place when the time arises. As I tell all my couples when they they tour, I don't love talking about "what if it rains," but at least we know we have a plan that works successfully, just in case.
The Venue Team Matters
One of the most overlooked parts of choosing a wedding venue is the team behind it. A knowledgeable venue team helps manage logitics, coordinates vendor timing, and steps in before small issues turn into big problems.
When you book a venue like The Burch on Twenty-Seven, you're not just reserving the space, you're gaining a team that understands weddings and genuinely wants your day to be perfect. At our venue, we offer an in-house DJ and a day-of coordinator. While we know choosing a friend to handle a job may be free, we've seen that hiring someone to do the job always works out best. The organization and outcome of your wedding is a reflection on us, so making the day perfect is just as much our priority as it is yours!

Clear Expectations Is Key
The smoothest weddings are the ones where expectations are clear from the beginning. Understanding setup times, decoration guidelines, vendor access, and the end-of-night responsibilities can save you from unnecessary stress later.
A professional wedding venue should feel like a partner throughout your planning process, offering guidance, transparency, and support every step of the way.
Final Thoughts
If there's one thing we wish every couple knew, it's this: the right wedding venue simplifies everything. When you choose a venue that aligns with your vision and provides expert support, you can truly enjoy your wedding day.
